I have the need to Sabotage!

May 30, 2009

There hasn’t been much revealed about The Saboteur, it certainly hasn’t gathered much hype in the gaming media but I personally think this is one to watch out for. Set during World War II (no don’t stop reading), you are given the task of taken down German officers/officials and in general just sabotage their plans for world domination. The unique thing about the game though is the use of colour or the lack of it in some ways. The majority of the areas you will play in will be covered in black and white representing the rule of the Germans and it is your task to bring colour back to the environment. Actually I don’t think anyone could do the game justice just talking about, here have a look for yourself.

The Saboteur is due out at the end Autumn/Christmas 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Sexy Bayonetta!

May 30, 2009

Is it wrong that I am actually looking forward to getting my hands on Bayonetta?! Yes I know she has the whole cheesy yet sexy Sarah Palin/librarian look about her but the gameplay does actually look pretty good, it has the whole Devil May Cry feel to it. Add in the fact that the talented guys and girls at Platinum are the development team behind the game I can’t help but think my excitement is a little bit justified. Still not with me? Maybe this new trailer will get you on the Bayonetta train.

Bayonetta is due out late 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The return of the Shepard

May 30, 2009

Bioware have released a couple of trailers already for the upcoming Mass Effect 2 and one of them hinted that the protagnist, Commander Shepard, could be dead. Well fear not Shepard fans he (or she, totally up to you) is back. Here have a look for yourself in this brand spanking new trailer.

If I don’t say so myself that trailer looks fantastic and it is good to that Commander Shepard will be back as it keeps up the continuity of the games universe. I loved the whole epic sci-fi feel of the original and judging by trailer this will provide us with more of the same. Oh and before I forget folks don’t delete your original Mass Effect save as we are told by Bioware it will actually effect certain events/situtations in the sequel!

Mass Effect 2 is on schedule for a late 2009 release

Sky’s the limit

May 29, 2009

Yesterday morning Microsoft announced an exclusive deal with Sky to bring sports, movies and TV shows straight to the Xbox 360 this autumn. The service will be provided through Sky Player, an on-demand TV service which has been available for a while now to access via your PC or Mac.

Xbox 360 owners who already subscribe to Sky will be able to access Sky Player through their console, in addition to their PC or Mac. If you are not a Sky subcriber though you will be able to sign up for the Sky Player through your 360 which will enable you to watch Sky on your 360 without the need for a satellite dish or a Sky box. No package or pricing details have been announced yet but we expect something soon.

At this press event on Thursday Microsoft also gave us a glimpse of the service, they showed off how users will be able to watch live football with up to seven of their friends from the comfort of their home and Xbox Live. During a match users can get into a party then talk to each other via their headsets throughout the match. If that wasn’t enough all users can enter into a virtual stadium with a virtual stand for everyones avatars to stand or sit down in. Users will also be able to make their avatar cheer if a goal is scored! Awesome!

This service sounds great and Microsoft have done really well to secure this deal with Sky. Hopefully though people without Sky will not have to pay too much for it and it would make sense if some sort of pay-per-view payment scheme is announced. I can imagine quite a few people would just like to watch one football match rather than paying to watch every match in a season. Anyhow we will keep you posted on any new details on this matter as soon as they emerge.

Thank You Mr Bubbles

Take-Two have today announced that Bioshock 2 will be coming to Europe on October 30th 2009. The big surprise is that this much anticipated title will be coming available to us Europeans a good few days before the North American release which is listed as November 3rd 2009. As most long time gamers will know, us cultured European folk are usually the ones who no-one acres and it is usually the Americans and Japanese that get their hands on the new releases first. Well, not this time!

Bioshock 2 is due to be released on PS3, 360 and PC.

The Ballad of Gay Tony

May 26, 2009

Just moments ago Rockstar Games have announced the new DLC for the smash hit Grand Theft Auto IV. It is titled, The Ballad of Gay Tony. This fantastically titled new epsiode will see gamers playing as Luis Lopez, a part-time hooldum and assistant to legendary nightclub impressario Tony Prince (aka Gay Tony). Throughout the course game Luis will struggle with the competing loyalties of family and friends, and with the uncertainty about who is real and who is fake in a world in which everyone has a price.

Not just satisfied with announcing new DLC, Rockstar also have revealed that they will be releasing The Ballad of Gay Tony and, the previously released DLC, The Lost and Damned on disc for the Xbox 360 this Autumn. The disc will be called Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City and will retail at $39.99 in North America (no price for Europe yet, maybe £30?!). Strangely enough though unlike the downloadable versions of each episode, the disc-based episodes will not require a copy of the original Grand Theft Auto IV to play.

I get the feeling some gamers out there will not be happy about that decision. Many people kept their original copies of Grand Theft Auto IV after completion just so they could play the DLC so this emerging news won’t make them happy as the trade-in/selling price for the game is now very low. Interesting decision from Rockstar to say the least.

Both the DLC and disc based content for The Ballad of Gay Tony is due out this Autumn exclusively for the Xbox 360.

Modern Warfare 2 – Full trailer revealed!

May 25, 2009

Finally, Infinity Ward has revealed the full trailer for Modern Warfare 2, the follow-up to the hugely successful and critically acclaimed Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. The two previous trailers have teased us with bits of footage but now we can finally see the game in its full glory.

Did you enjoy it?! Hmm, of course you did! So here is what I deduced after watching that amazing trailer.

  • The game is set after the events of the original and will give us gamers the task of taking down Makarov who is a former associate of Zakhaev, the “bad guy” from the first game.
  • Gameplay will take place in multiple locations around the world. Snowy Russia, deserts of Afghanistan and the huge city that is Rio de Janeiro.
  • Civilians are seen running around in the trailer, possible  “epic” escort or rescue hostage missions.
  • Vehicle based missions to possibly be introduced. Driving and shooting while in a snowmobile seems certain. Possible for a mission to be based in a helicopter too? Hmm, I hope so.
  • Characters are seen swimming; there could be a mission which requires infiltration via water.
  • New knife based melee kills.
  • Might be a long shot but there is a glimpse of someone being tortured in trailer; maybe that is a new addition too.
  • It also looks like the final mission could involve getting into Makarov’s huge castle base and taking him out. The trailer certainly suggests this as that set-piece battle just looks to amazing not be the final act of the game.
  • Lastly even though it seems like Infinity Ward are using the same graphics engine from the original, this game just looks so much more cinematic. That can only be a good thing right?!

Modern Warfare 2 is due to be released November 10th 2009 but I am quite sure we will see more of it before that. Awesome!
